Welcome to the Stonewall Head Start, Inc. website! We are one of the first Head Start programs in the nation. Stonewall Head Start, Inc. was the pet project for former President Johnson, and is located across the road from the famous L. B. Johnson Ranch. We are located in three Hill Country locations in Central Texas. Our three centers are in Stonewall, Fredericksburg, and Harper Texas.

 Our program is one of the finest in the nation, serving 133 low income children and families. Head Start provides education services, medical and dental assistance, parent trainings, disability services, and nutritional support.

 Many people don’t realize the full scope of all of the services offered to families who enroll in the Head Start program. President Johnson’s original vision for Head Start was to assist low income families and children to succeed in life, and overcome the many hardships that come with being a low income family. We are still carrying out his dream today by training and working with 133 families per year.

Many individuals are interested in helping low income families and yet cannot figure out how they can help. We believe that Stonewall Head Start, Inc. is one of the best and most secure investments that an individual can make in the future of our nation. Recent data shows that for every one dollar invested in a Head Start program, saves an average of three US dollars from programs such as welfare, and government assistance programs.

How we are funded...

 Stonewall Head Start, Inc. is funded through grants & donations.  As fewer & fewer grant dollars become available and with the ever rising costs of products and services, it is becoming increasingly difficult to continue to provide the quality services to our children and families they so desperately need.  The average Head Start program operates on a budget one fourth the size of the average ISD, yet Head Start provides an abundance of services not provided by the ISD’s.  These services include Family Partnerships, Education, Transition, Parent Involvement, Health, Dental, Nutrition, Mental Health, Disabilities, and Community Partnership services.  The average bachelor’s degreed Head Start teacher makes $26,500 a year while the average bachelor’s degreed kindergarten teacher earns more than $45,250 per year.  Your tax dollars go the ISD’s to educate children yet Head Start’s see none of these funds. Stonewall Head Start, Inc. has a proud 40 year track record of proven financial accountability, yet we do not have enough funds to cover even the most basic of necessities.
